Collar Size and Styles

Picking the right size collar for your dog

Please do measure your dog's head before placing your order to ensure you pick the right size collar. All of our collars are fitted by slipping the collar over the head then tightening the brass slider for the perfect fit. The collars have plenty of allowance for alteration. Measure your dog around the widest part of his/her head and neck (including their ears) and then pick the size accordingly. For sighthounds the widest part of the head could be their neck so use this measurement!  If you wish to provide the exact measurement in the special comments box please do, although the order page will require you to pick the correlating size in the drop down box.

As a very rough rule of thumb a small whippet would be 10"-12", Terriers, Spaniels and lurchers would select 13" to 15", Greyhounds, Deerhounds, Staffies and Collies 16" to 18", Labradors and Retriever size dogs 19" to 21" or 22" to 24". It really is best to measure your pooch to make sure he or she will not be disappointed. All of our collars are made to order so we are unable to accept returns unless there is a manufacturing fault.

Martingale Collars

A martingale style collar is recommended for use with sighthounds or other dogs who slip out of their collars, usually when their neck size is similar or larger than their head. This design includes an extra loop which, when the dog pulls, gently closes tighter around the neck. In these pictures Mabel is demonstrating a single loop and a martingale collar.
